Repairing Scratched Epoxy Resin River Dining Table

Updated: Nov 5

My client's a few blocks north in Arcadia Proper had ordered this black resin and walnut live edge dining table from a craftsmen in Canada and had it shipped to Phoenix. The shipping crate with the river table inside was dropped off of the loading deck of the freight truck. In the process of all that trauma the steel legs were damaged and ripped out the inserts from the wood top and the resin river was badly scratched.

The deep scratches and dent in the resin surface were caused by the rough plywood of the crate and screws smashing into and dragging across the surface. The client continued to use the table for over a year before contacting a me to repair it so there were also minor scratches from casual use as a dining table.

The chip/dent was the deepest of the damage along with the scratch near the end of the table - I started with 220 grit mesh on my buffer to try and cut through the damage and blend with surrounding areas. I moved up to 400 grit mesh abrasive to cut through the lighter scratches and on with Mirka abralon padded abrasive from 500-4k. I then used Meguiars cut compounds starting with 110 on a green foam pad, then 205 with a blue foam pad followed by PlastiX plastic polish. I've also used Novus brand plastic polishes on previous projects.
