Exploring the Craft of Epoxy Resin

Recently, Ian from Epoxy Masters and the iCoat Resin Podcast visited my woodshop at Wine Glass Sawmill. We had an exciting time discussing the intricacies of epoxy resin work. Ian came to see two special epoxy live edge custom tables that I've been crafting.

The timing of his visit was perfect. He was able to film the finishing process of a custom kitchen table. This table features oceanic epoxy, quartz geode, and clear selenite. These elements add a magical vibe to the piece. It beautifully complements a 34" round coffee table that glows with fluorite rock. Both pieces are for the same client, who happens to be my neighbor!

The Art of Epoxy Resin

Epoxy resin art has gained immense popularity in recent years. Artists and craftsmen are drawn to its versatility and stunning visual effects. The ability to create unique pieces that reflect personal style is a significant appeal.

In my woodshop, I focus on creating custom pieces that tell a story. Each table I craft is unique, incorporating different materials and techniques. The oceanic epoxy used in the kitchen table is particularly special. It mimics the colors and textures of the sea, bringing a piece of nature indoors.

The Finishing Process

The finishing process is crucial in epoxy resin work. It involves several steps to ensure a smooth and glossy surface. First, I sand the piece to remove any imperfections. Then, I apply a finishing coat of epoxy to enhance the shine and durability. This step is essential for protecting the artwork and ensuring its longevity.

During Ian's visit, he captured this entire process on film. It was a fantastic opportunity to share my techniques and insights with a broader audience.

Why Choose Epoxy Resin?

Epoxy resin is an excellent choice for various projects. It is durable, waterproof, and resistant to UV light. This makes it ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications. Additionally, the aesthetic appeal of epoxy resin is unmatched. The ability to incorporate different materials, like quartz and selenite, allows for endless creative possibilities.

For anyone considering a custom piece, epoxy resin offers a unique solution. It can transform ordinary furniture into extraordinary art.
