We've been commissioned to create a large wall art piece for our customer in San Diego. This Walnut has some extremely unique characteristics in that it was felled from Mingus Mountain in Jerome, AZ over 40 yrs ago, and is curled from edge to edge with a deep almost black-brown natural color. Our customer requested the resin fill to mimic Cat's Eye. We found a unique color shift mica blend and did a couple test castings prior to the large 8+ gallon pour.
We brought back all the Walnut from this log in large rough thick sawn chunks and had it resawn here in Phoenix along with a bug kill cycle in the kiln.
